Something Worth Telling
Author: Michael Gott
If you were to bring together people from all countries and cultures in the world that have become Christ followers in the last five years and ask them to summarize in one sentence their encounter, in unison they would say—“In Jesus Christ I found a living relationship with God like nothing I knew before.”
Many had no religious background, others had been religious for years—but they shared one problem; they had no dynamic relationship with Christ. They once respected God in general, but now they love Him personally. You may have been an agnostic or even an atheist, but now God has become a reality, and you want to know more.
For example, now you admit, for you have come to see, that Jesus was a real historical figure who came into the world to make God real to us and to show in a living person what God was like. Congratulations, you have come to an important conclusion, one like Paul’s in the New Testament. You now believe
in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9
In the words of Billy Graham, “Jesus is God in human flesh.” Yes, Jesus is God spelling Himself out in a language that all of us could understand. Jesus spoke the language of love.
And in the end we must say of Jesus—either there is no God or that He is God! So He is the living proof that God is there and there to love us—no person ever thought too much of Christ.
Now, you have taken a daring step! You have said, “If Jesus Christ does not forgive my sins, they will never be forgiven, and if Jesus Christ does not get me to heaven, I will never, ever get there—I have no other hope but Him!” You have entrusted your life and your eternity to Him in the best way and to the greatest extent you know how. To you He is the honored guest who entered the house that you call “you,” and He promises He will stay forever because you asked Him to do so.
Think of Jesus as a solid rock on which you now build your life.
Think of Jesus as a narrow gate through which you have gone to find a beautiful garden and an open, green landscape.
Think of Jesus as your new best friend who promises to never forsake you.
Think of Jesus as a hidden treasure that you have been led to discover, who will make you rich forever.
Think of Jesus as a man but more than a man, for it is only through Him that God came into your world.
Now the great thing is—it’s not that you just know about Him, you now know Him from your heart. He brought God into your life. And it’s only the start—the longer you know Him, the better it is, and the more wonderful He becomes.
Think about what you know—you know a living person who loves you. Now you know that Christianity is not just churches, or ceremonies, or creeds, or that kind of thing, but following a person, history’s greatest person Jesus Christ.
But now all of that is settled in your heart and soul. The question becomes how can you help others discover Jesus as you know Him? It should be the most natural thing in the world for you to want to help others know Him.
This desire was what Andrew, in the days of Jesus, felt. He went and got his brother, who became known as Peter, and said,
We have found God’s answer to man’s problems . . . the one whom God promised to send. John 1:41, 42
And remember the name Jesus is the name God told us He should be called. Look for yourself in Luke 1:31. Why did God choose that name for His Son? I will tell you—that name means “God to the rescue.” So it’s a wonderful name, and it’s a remarkable name, so never be ashamed or afraid to use the name of Jesus with respect and as a witness.
Here’s something to consider—every one of us has an interesting story to tell. Your story is as unique as your fingerprint. It is the story of how you came to know Jesus. Nobody has a story just like yours. Therefore, you will want to tell your friends about that encounter when you met Jesus and how you welcomed Him to change your life.
And here and now let me emphasize something important. Do not ever be afraid to tell them about Him. Speak His name—Jesus!—as you would speak the name of someone famous whom you knew personally. It is your honor to tell people that you personally know Jesus Christ. There is power in His name so speak it out with statements like, “There was a special moment when Jesus Christ, the living Lord, came into my life. My life is now different because of Him.”
Remember, Christianity is Christ—not religion and not tradition but Him. Never be shy and never be embarrassed to speak of Him. So say it clearly—“Jesus is the reason for the change that I and others sense in my heart and life.”
